Pinin’ for good writer blogs

Hi all!
Some news: I took the time last night to get the wordpress.org software working on 5-Rings.com ^__^

So if you’d like to visit the mess or see how things are coming along, just head to http://www.5-Rings.com/wordpress

Also, I’d really, really like it if some of you could share your favorite writer blogs. I hope you don’t mind me asking.

I currently keep up with everything that’s over there on the right far too easily. All honesty, I’d like more to read.

  1. Ah! You have hosting. I was wondering whether or not you did. I sent an email to you last week inquiring about it. And I was going to offer you hosting too. :P For free even. What a lose! haha, I’m kidding.

Good to hear you got wordpress up and running. Although your website is not working for me at the moment. :| booo.

  2. @Latrina: Eek! You sent that to my now defunct Nick.Terendel@gmail.com address. It fell to the wayside back when Terendel was voted down in favor of Enlowe, here:

Oh, and I got my own host/domain back on Oct 26th, as seen here: http://cirellio.wordpress.com/2008/10/26/happy-birthday-to-me/

^__^ thanks for the lovely offer, though. It was sweet of you to ask me to be included at BlistersInMay. I’m blushin’!

When you said http://www.5-Rings.com/wordpress wasn’t working, how did you mean? It’s supposed to look very vanilla and say “Not Found”, if that’s what you meant. I’ll be working on tidying things up on the site every now and then, and then I’ll import the posts.

Oh, and finally, please share what your favorite writer blog(s) is(are), if you’re so inclined and have one or two to share.

  3. Ahh, yeah I noticed you had a new address the next day so I figured you wouldn’t have gotten the email. :P

And it would have been my pleasure! Your website looks fine now! It was giving me a 404 page earlier. Just curious though, is your wordpress files going to stay in it’s on subfolder? Like would be have to type out “www.5-Rings.com/wordpress” to view your blog? I have wordpress but all my files are in the main folder.

Honestly. :| I don’t have any other favorite writer blogs. You are my first actually. I have been looking for some as well! My fiancee, Chris, though is an amazing writer. His website is http://heart.blistersinmay.org but he hasn’t uploaded anything yet. He has plans too soon though! (I keep pushing him to start sharing his stories hehe) So keep an eye out for that. :)

  4. I was thinking of having 5-Rings.com just be a main portal to both a blog and a forum. I’m messing around with things a bit, but I know I can make it pull up at 5-rings.com or in a subfolder. For the design I have in mind, the subfolder option is looking best.
I’ve been keeping an eye on Chris’ site in case he decided to do anything with it. ;)

  5. Ah, alright. That sounds awesome. A forum even? I’d be interested in seeing that. :D
Hehe, I promise I’ll try my hardest to get him blogging soon.

  6. Yep, I thought a forum might be nice to discuss world building and writing and things. And good luck with Chris ^__^!!
PS->I’ll probably rename ‘wordpress’ to ‘blog’ so it’s easier to type.

  7. Anybody with some favorite blogs?
    …anybody?
lol… I’ll start. I really like Patrick Rothfuss’ blog ( http://www.PatrickRothfuss.com/blog/blog.html ). It’s often amusing and is a good place for inside info on the ‘biz.
Alex Moore’s blog ( http://alex-moore.blogspot.com ) is awesome in that she writes intelligently, is cheerful, and spreads the word about good writing contests.

  8. Yeah, I’ve been writing, I just haven’t found the time or the means to create something that’s visually pleasing to complement my ramblings. It doesn’t help that I’m an extreme perfectionist, but especially when it comes to web design.

One of my favorite blogs is Stephen Christian’s blog at http://modesty.blogspot.com/ even though I don’t think I would consider it a “writer’s blog” in the way that your’s or others’ are “writer’s blogs”, even though he has published a novel. His takes a more introspective and philosophical approach and steers away from discussing writing, but it’s still fun to read.

  9. I don’t know why, but my feed just doesn’t like you anymore! The last post that shows is your b-day one and when I unsubscribed and subscribed again, same thing happened.

    Grrr!!

  10. Sooooooo…
Want to share a few of your favorite feeds? *ahem*
I’ve even read like every one of Limyaael’s rants!!
Oh well, if I don’t start getting responses soon, I guess I’ll have to search for more writer blogs the old-fashioned way.

Seriously though, I’ve never actually used feeds before… do you use a particular program to access them?
I’ll have to pay a visit to feedburner to see what’s going on, thanks for letting me know
    :)

  11. I’m a fan of Stephen Christian’s blog over at http://modesty.blogspot.com/ even though it isn’t a real “writer’s blog”. Even though he’s been published, a lot of his posts simply make me happy rather than improve my writing abilities. He generally blogs about philosophical ideas or charity events that he’s participating in instead, but after Anberlin finished up their newest album he’s been posting less and less lately.

  12. Oh, another good one is Laurie Halse Anderson’s blog at http://halseanderson.livejournal.com/ — she’s an adolescent writer with a great sense of humor. If you’ve never read Speak or Twisted by her, I’d check ‘em out (grab something by Chris Crutcher, too). Her blog tends to be much more along the lines of a traditional writer’s blog than Stephen Christian’s.

  13. Dude, I totally forgot: http://modesty.blogspot.com/ — One of my dailies. He’s quite inspiring. :)

  14. @christopher.: Thanks! I’ve never read those books. I’ll check ‘em out. I checked out Laurie’s page and all she seems to talk about is what she had for breakfast and the election. Maybe it’s just a phase? I’ll be sure to check out Chris Crutcher and Stephen Christian too.

  15. Absurdistry’s Weblog is one of my favourites. There is an equal amount of fictional writing and social commentary.

Randall (the single writer for it) has a way of describing things. It’s as if Al Pacino read Humpty Dumpty – the mundane becomes intriguing.

  16. Oh, and Cementum (http://www.cementum.co.uk/). Also another great blog following the novel (and NaNoWriMo) writing of Richard Galbraith, who is in my eye, a very talented chappy and an interesting one to boot.

  17. Here is my favorite: http://www.writingexcuses.com/ Writing Excuses is a blog and podcast that Brandon Sanderson is involved with.

  18. @Darcy: How could I forget about Brandon Sanderson? *adds link to the page* I can’t wait to read some of his work. The podcast is pretty entertaining, too. Thanks for the
    head’s up.

  19. @RG Sanders: Richard’s page was hard on my eyes for some reason, but I think I’m going to follow Randall’s for awhile and see how it goes. His latest posts were disarming; they strip him completely naked (metaphorically speaking, of course). He really lays it all out for us. And his writing is stellar.
Thanks for hooking me up :)

  20. Dude, I totally forgot: http://modesty.blogspot.com/ — One of my dailies. He’s quite inspiring. :)

    I’m not too inspired :(

  21. Thanks for the comment, FYI – New site at http://5-Rings.com
