Random fantasy clichés

I sometimes pound these silly clichés out to get over writer’s block. These are just comical quick random blurbs of situations I see in fantasies a lot.

#1 – Thorn in the Foot

Come across a dragon (or other large monster-thingie) ravaging a village and aww Poor thing! There’s just a thorn in his foot. He’s just being a Grumpy Gus – all bloodthirsty for peasants cuz his footsie hurts and he can’t get the thorn out himself. I’ll just pull it out for him and- Ah! That’s better. He’s regained faith in all humanity! Now he’s my bestest happiest friend in the whole wide world and will fly me wherever I want! lalala.

#2 – Doppleganger

Hey guys I just went to the bathroom in the trees over there and- *stab* Gah! How could you? How could you stab your best friend!?
Don’t be fooled by his trickery! He’s not the real Sidekick. Sidekick would never say ‘Hey guys’ and he always wears his satchel on his left side, not his right.
Mwahahaha How perceptive, Hero! You were wise to stab me for it is I, Evil Overlord.

#3 – The Betrayal

*the evil henchmen, headed by the Evil Overlord, corners our valiant heroes*
We’ve got you cornered now!
*a companion that seemed completely pointless to the story so far snatches the hero’s magical amulet/crystal/sword and walks over to the bad guys. Everyone acts surprised.*
Why? Why did you betray me to the Evil Overlord and steal the Magical Amulet/Crystal/Sword? For money?
Not just money. Piles of money!! (or unimaginable power, etc.)
I should have known better than to trust you!
*cue evil laughter, headed by the Evil Overlord*

#4 – The Kingly Duel

It looks hopeless! We’re getting overwhelmed by the Magical Army, Hero. We’re all going to die!
Wait! I have an idea. I challenge you to a duel, Corrupted King!
*army stops attacking and just stands there*
What?! Impossible! Everybody knows only royals can challenge royals to a duel.
It turns out my father was the king of Lost Continent. This random trinket proves it!
*gasps*
He speaks the truth, your royal wickedness. According to our ancient writs, you can’t turn down a Kingly Duel. ‘Tis a ‘Kingly Duty’. Turning it down would be … dishonorable!
NOOOO!!! You are right, Dark Advisor.
*Maiden rolls her eyes* It’s not like honor has ever been an issue for you, before.
No. I … I must. I accept your challenge, Hero. For it is in the ancient writs!
*Corrupted King is slain and the Magical Army dissipates*
Yay!
